One of the most interesting Americans who lived in the 19th century was a man by the name of Russell Herman Conwell. He was born in 1843 and lived until 1925.
Dr. Conwell founded Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, a college for the underprivileged who couldn't afford higher education. What I find most interesting is how he raised the money to start this university and turn his dream into reality.
By telling the following true story, Dr. Conwell attracted enormous crowds allowing him to raise over $6 million...which is more than he needed.
